Pet Care Pin #1: Visit an animal shelter. Explain the reasons why pets are in the animal shelter to your den or family.

My mom and dad and I went to the Macomb County Humane Society. The lady working there told me that they have animals that come there for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes, people's dogs or cats have too many babies. Or pets sometimes get sick and their owners can't take care of them; or they got in a fire or some other disaster and they need to be taken care of. Sometimes they are stray animals or homeless pets and they need someone to help them find them a new home. When I was there, I saw dogs and cats and bunnies and even a guinea pig! They were all hoping for a new home. I can't wait until I have my kidney transplant so that I can get a puppy. I'm going to rescue a puppy and give it a good home.

Pet Care Belt Loop #1: 1. Care for your pet for two weeks. Make a list of the tasks that you did to take care of your pet.

I have three cats and a goldfish. I fed them and gave them water and gave them lots of love and play with them. My cat Harriet had to have emergency surgery because she swallowed a bell. My mom and I made a video showing how I take care of Harriet and how I take care of my fish. But it looks funny because I'm moving WAY too fast in the videos. Here they are:

Pet Care Pin #3: Tell three ways that animals can help people.

Dogs and horses can be used to help blind people get around. They are called seeing eye dogs and seeing eye horses. If you don't believe me about seeing eye horses, here's a picture:

Fish help restaurants look cool by floating around in fish tanks (especially salt water kinds) and bringing in business because kids want their parents to bring them there to eat so they can see the fish.

Spiders help keep flies and other insects from taking over the world. If we didn't have spiders, there would be so many flies that we would NOT want to live on this planet anymore. Same thing with birds. Birds help keep the flies and other insects from taking over the world too.

Pet Care Belt Loop #2: Visit a pet store. Make a list of the different animals in the store and the kinds of foods they eat

Ferrets eat ferret pellets.

Cats eat cat food.

Dogs eat dog food.

Fish eat fish food.

Parrots eat bird food.

Snakes eat mice.

Mice eat anything!

Tarantula's which eat flies, crickets and other insects. Same for female tarantulas. But if it's a bird eating spider, it eats mice.

Lizards eat bugs.

Turtles eat small fish.

Frogs eat crickets.

Disabilities Awareness Belt Loop #2: Attend a disabilities event such as an Easter Seals event, Special Olympics or similar event

My daddy and I went to the Roseville Handicapped Olympics. They had golf, bowling, kicking a soccer ball, t-ball, pitching a ball, hockey, standing long jump. Some of the contestants could throw a ball really far. The people who were participating were mostly not in wheelchairs, except for one, who they helped to stand up for the t-ball and hockey events; because she wanted to show that she could. There were people of all ages participating- adults and kids- and a guy named Elvis threw a ball over 100 feet! Then, my dad and I went golfing.

Communications Belt Loop #3: Read a book that has been approved by your parent or teacher. Discuss the book with an adult.

I just finished listening to Book 1 of the Kane Chronicles "The Red Pyramid" with my mom on audiobook. It's about two kids who are born of the Pharoahs and accidentally got two of the Egyptian gods (Horus and Isis) stuck in their heads. They have to stop Set, the evil and powerfulest of them all, who has trapped Osiris (who is also a god and has equal power to him) from destroying North America. They do this with help from Bast the cat goddess, Xia the magician and Amos, their uncle the magician and Hufu. Hufu is a baboon who is protected by Thoth, who protects all baboons. He likes to play basketball and only eats stuff that ends in "o". He even eats flamingo!! They are also helped by Phillip, the albino crocodile who loves swimming in his pool and also Thoth, a mad scientist of a god. And when we say mad, we mean "MAD" he doesn't even know that blues music is invented yet!

The Kane Chronicles was made by the same person who made Percy Jackson and the Olympians (the Lighting Thief, and the whole entire series) and there really is a red pyramid. Basically, the white bricks got peeled back and it turned out the inside is pink. But it is not really evil, but some of the stuff in the book is true. Shopti are real and it's true that magicians were really famed throughout Egypt. I'm looking forward to the next book and if the story is true, let's just hope not. (Mom's note: It's not.)

Communications Pin #2: Listen to a news story on television or the radio. Discuss the information with an adult.

I have been watching tv and listening to the radio to get news about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico ever since it happened. I talk about what's going to happen to animals and marine life and I also keep my mom updated about how BP's doing to fix the problem. They put a new cap on last night. That means that it must work, otherwise the pressure will just build up and shoot the cap off up into the air. I think that BP is doing horrible at their job. They are meanies.

This is a picture NASA took of the oil spill from space. It's infected the whole entire place!

Art Belt Loopp #1: 1. Make a list of common materials used to create visual art compositions.

Wood, metal, paper, clay, paper, pencil, marker, ink, paint, steel, rock, cloth, plastics, plaster, cardboard, photographs and sometimes even sports equipment.
